Detailed Insights
My experience with the RPNB Gun Safe has been overwhelmingly positive. Setting up the fingerprint scanner was surprisingly simple; the 500 DPI semiconductor sensor swiftly recognized my fingerprint in less than a second. The dual entry system—providing the option of a biometric scan or manual key—adds a layer of convenience and reliability. I found this particularly useful when my hands were wet, and the scanner couldn’t read my print accurately.
The construction of the safe is incredibly sturdy, thanks to the 16-gauge carbon steel, giving it a reassuring weight and solidity. The black rocky finish not only looks professional but also prevents corrosion, promising long-lasting use.
Security is paramount, and the RPNB Gun Safe delivers robust anti-theft protection. The anti-impact latches and pry-proof steel body feel as impenetrable as claimed. Moreover, the safe’s unique hinge design that holds the lid open ensures that you can quickly access your firearm in emergencies.
The inclusion of a 3.2ft steel security cable was a pleasant surprise. This feature allows me to secure the safe to a stationary object, making it impossible for thieves to walk off with it. Reviewing the safe’s overall functionality, the added security elements provide considerable peace of mind.
Here are some pros and cons based on my experience:
- Pros:
- Quick and reliable biometric access
- Sturdy construction with anti-theft features
- Versatile storage options
- Convenient dual entry system
- Aesthetic and corrosion-resistant design
- Cons:
- Biometric scanner may need multiple attempts initially
- Internal padding could be improved

Title: RPNB Gun Safe, Biometric Fingerprint, Superior Customer Services
Review: The safe had a problem with the biometric system. I called customer service and they answered the phone and tried to walk me through the process of setting up the biometric. Then they contacted engineering and in about an hour engineering called me back and we discussed the issue. They sent me a new one and I received it within a couple of days. I set it up very easily and it works. The product opens so fast and the design is perfect for my needs. Because of the service they gave me I would purchase any safe from this company. The Customer service exceeded my needs. Note* It was so nice to speak to someone that speaks English. You know sometimes when calling a help center you are sent overseas and struggle speaking to them and understanding them. I’m giving them a 5 Star!!

Title: Secure safe with great fingerprint scanner
Review: This safe checked all the boxes I wanted in a replacement safe. My previous safe had a biometric scanner and push buttons for a code. Those were ok but limited to two fingerprints. In addition the door release also had a piston to fully lift the door to access the weapon, the problem is the piston has worn out and the door doesn’t spring open enough to quickly open the safe. So for my new safe I wanted a better biometric scanner, the ability to store more than two prints, and most importantly little to no spring to open to access the contents. This safe hit all those points.
The scanner is very similar to an iPhone fingerprint scanner. As I did with my old iPhone, I changed scan positions drastically to ensure pretty much any finger position would unlock the safe. I also scanned different parts of the same finger such as the middle of the of and closer to the first joint since I wasn’t getting a good read on the middle pad scan.
A couple of issues brought up in other reviews:
This version of safe does have a silence button to turn off beeps or chimes while scanning or accessing the safe. Prior versions of the safe may not have had this feature.
Second issue was the scanner reading any fingerprint from another person after a print has been programmed. As stated above the scanner is defaulted to read any print upon unboxing. When a custom print is added this default is turned off. If the safe is reset to remove all fingerprints then the default would be any print can unlock the safe. Additionally I had other people test the fingerprint scanner after I programmed my fingerprint and no one else was able to unlock the safe.
The only negatives I could find the padding inside of pretty thin and not well attached to the safe. The key type used for unlocking is pretty easy to defeat. Not the most secure key type but if someone has access to a small safe locked in my home that can be pried open they can have it.

Title: Great pistol safe, fingerprint scanner is a bit dodgey
Review: Overall I really like this safe. It is solidly built and comes with a steel cable to secure it so no one can walk off with it. The size is perfect, it was able to fit a HK USP Expert, which is a monstrous handgun. It sides nicely under a bed or couch and can be deployed in moments. The construction is very heavy-duty, it would take some serious effort to get it open.
The only trouble I had was with the fingerprint scanner. I originally scanned my thumbs and index fingers, but found that the scanner failed to recognize me when I tried to open it the first time around. It would open on the second try each time. I decided to clear all the fingerprints and just scan my same thumb multiple times under different profiles. I did one on the left side, one on the right, one at the tip of my thumb, and one at the base. This seems to have remedied the issue, I can get it to open the first time regularly now.
Overall I like the safe and think it is a great value. If I was able to make changes, I would add either rechargeable batteries or a hard-wire plug so I don’t need to rely on a set of AA batteries. I’m sure they last a while, however it would be just my luck they would die on the exact day I need them the most.

Title: Don’t bet your life on this safe.
Review: Obviously, this item works properly more often than not, but given my own experience as well as the number of negative reviews, the quality of the fingerprint reader appears to be unreliable. The instructions are short and simple and very easy to follow, yet a significant number of buyers couldn’t make it work. It’s easy to assume they didn’t follow directions but after 35 years in IT support and I can tell you that’s not a reasonable assumption to make.
My experience was as follows:
Installed the new batteries and pressed the Reset button once to begin. Got the blue light and the beep. Reviewed the programming tips and attempted to register my right thumb, each time I got the green light, a single beep, and heard the locking mechanism cycle. Despite making as many as 30 attempts I never got the double light, double beep announcing registration. I repeated this process with at least four other fingerprints with the same lack of result. I closed the box and tested it, and it was still accepting ALL fingerprints to open, even fingers I’d made no attempt to register!
I followed the directions to delete all registered prints and repeated the process with the same failure.
I know how to read and follow directions, I built an IT career, self-taught by reading manuals. The box I received was clearly defective. The box itself is sturdy and well-made, but the fingerprint reader is what sets this box apart, and to have it be that unreliable is unacceptable.
UPDATE 8/8/2021 The box failed to read the previously stored fingerprint after a couple of weeks without opening. This product should be removed from the market.
