A keypad lock, an actual keyed lock, enough space for all that I needed to lock up and batteries replaceable from the outside of the safe. This was important to me because I wanted to be sure I could still access the safe even if I misplaced the physical keys. If the batteries die I can replace them without opening the safe. It is also missing a few things I’d like to have seen. I wish it had better storage for pistols. There are three trays built into the door, but actual pockets would have been a nice upgrade. I also wish it was lined with softer surfaces. There is a piece of felt carpet on the floor, but a nice touch would have been carpet throughout. The safe is sturdy but not thick at all. I consider this more of a locker than an actual safe. I trust this to keep my things out of the hands of kids, but I wouldn’t expect this to deter a thief. For my purposes, this is perfect! I recommend it! Update: I was with a friend who owns a gun shop this weekend and he was amazed at the features of this gun safe for the price. The door has two bars on the side, one on the top, and one on the bottom which are very sturdy and lock into place smoothly. Overall this safe was easy to put together, and I can rest easy knowing my things are securely locked up from kids or intruders! |

Assembly was straightforward, although the bottom plate on the one I received didn’t have provisions to secure it to the safe other than the locking tabs it clicks into. The screws mentioned in the instructions had no corresponding holes in the sheet metal. Use a decent Phillips screwdriver on the screws and not the included screwdriver to minimize the risk of stripping the heads on the screws. I looked at a few lower-end gun cabinets at Tractor Supply and Harbor Freight and this doesn’t seem any less secure than cabinets that cost a little more than this one. If you need high security and fire resistance, look elsewhere. If you want a conveniently delivered, Ikea-style flat-pack assemble-yourself locking cabinet, I’d say this is a budget-friendly option. And at 40lbs, moving it around is pretty easy. The back wall has provisions to anchor it to the wall for added stability and security.
